The Philosophy 'Down Our Street'

.
.
Our goal is fairly simple: left-wing ideals through right-wing techniques for real changes down the line; our approach however, is perhaps not so obvious.

At Down My Street and Up Yours, we don’t try to change the world directly. We try to challenge common conceptions and hope to change attitudes so individuals can change, positively.
Our main goal is not to sell opinions. We try not to take sides (it’s ‘gosh darn’ hard not to at times); we ask questions and try to present common sense observations that are entirely stripped of all the marketing! That being said, people on our street are keenly aware of and sensitive to the in’s and out’s of marketing--after all, it's what drives the world and forges our attitudes (for the moment)...

Causality is inseparable from our views; people on our street are well aware that absolutely all resolutions, and not just those that are proposed by extremists on either side of an issue, lead to a balance of negative and positive causes and effects proportional to the radical-ness of the projected actions…
As such, our approach is built on the principles of Arne Naess's (Norwegian philosopher) deep ecology; based on the belief that all life on the planet is equal and interrelated, we strongly question the values and lifestyle of industrial societies. Although we'll still gladly take part in any worthwhile shallow ecology battle, we see limitations in such efforts and understand that if real change is to happen, it needs to happen at a fundamental level.

But we also realize that humans are humans and the industrial world we live in is a product of humanity; some things are unavoidable and so it’s useless to try to change these at this point. As I like to say: even recycling plants pollute! And, after all, every single organization—even humanitarian ones—incorporate corporate features.
But changing perceptions thus forcing others to question more of the things we are told and to challenge more of the ‘forces’ that act on us, that’s doable. Slowly, this should allow us to get a better grasp on what being human should be all about… or what we really want it to be about.
